Mechanical water meter is a kind of equipment used to measure fluid flow. According to the different measurement principles, the mechanical water meter can be divided into velocity type water meter and volumetric type water meter.
(1) Velocity water meter: This type of water meter is generally installed in a closed pipe, composed of a moving element, and its power comes from the speed of the water flow. Typical velocity meters include rotor-wing meters and screw-wing meters. The rotor-type water meter can also be divided into single-flow beam water meters and multiple-flow beam water meters according to the number of flow beams. A single-beam water meter means the flow has only one beam as it passes through the rotor, while a multi-beam water meter has multiple beams under the same rotor. The measurement error of the velocity water meter will be affected by the fluid speed, in general, the error will be about ±2%.
(2) Volumetric water meter: unlike the velocity-type water meter, the volumetric water meter is installed in the pipeline, and the flow rate is calculated by measuring the fluid volume through the water meter. The measurement error of the displacement water meter is much lower than that of the velocity water meter, which can be controlled at a level of ±0.5% or even lower. Because of the high measurement accuracy of the volumetric water meter, it is generally used in precision industrial production or test and other places with high measurement accuracy requirements. The velocity water meter is generally suitable for daily life industrial production and other occasions because of its low price and ease of use. It should be noted that the price of volumetric water meters will usually be significantly higher than that of speed water meters.
When choosing a mechanical water meter, it is necessary to choose according to the actual application scenario and demand. If there are high requirements for measurement accuracy, the volumetric water meter will be a better choice. If it is price sensitive, or if only a rough flow measurement is required, then a velocity meter will be more appropriate.
At the same time, selecting the appropriate type of water meter is significant to ensure water safety and save water resources. The following is about the mechanical water meter in the process of use should pay attention to several aspects:
1. Installation environment: When choosing a water meter, it should be judged according to the actual installation environment. For example, for poor water quality, containing more impurities should choose the better anti-pollution performance of the water meter. At the same time, the protection level of the water meter should be considered to adapt to different environmental conditions.
2. Measuring range: Different types of water meters have different measuring ranges. When choosing a water meter, the appropriate water meter should be selected according to the range of flow that needs to be measured. Too small a measuring range may cause the water meter to not work properly, and too large a measuring range may affect the measuring accuracy of the water meter.
3. Maintenance and maintenance: In the process of use, the water meter needs to be regularly maintained and maintained to ensure its normal operation. For velocity water meters, the rotor or spiral should be cleaned regularly to prevent clogging; For volumetric water meters, valves, valve seats, and other components should be regularly checked to ensure sealing performance.
4. Moisture and antifreeze: the water meter should be prevented from moisture during use, so as not to affect its measurement accuracy. For water meters installed outdoors or in low-temperature environments, anti-freezing measures should also be taken to avoid damage to water meters due to freezing.
5. Electrical connection: For water meters with electronic display or remote communication function, ensure that the electrical connection is reliable to prevent equipment failure due to poor contact or short circuit.
In short, when choosing and using a mechanical water meter, it is necessary to fully consider various factors to ensure that the water meter can meet our actual needs and provide accurate and reliable water measurements for our lives and work. At the same time, the rational use and maintenance of water meters also help to save water resources and protect the environment.
