AMI - Advanced Metering Infrastructure
Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) systems communicate with metering devices either on request or on a schedule to measure, collect, analyze, and control water usage.
AMI extends Advanced Meter Reading (AMR) technology by providing two-way meter communications. In addition to collecting data, AMI systems also allow commands and data to be sent to the meter such as updated “time-of-use” pricing information, demand-response actions, or a command to disconnect or reconnect a service.
AMR - Automatic Meter Reading
Automatic Meter Reading (AMR) technology collects consumption, diagnostic, and status data from water meters and transfers the data to a central data base for billing, troubleshooting, and analytics.
AMR saves utilities the expense and potential errors associated with manually reading meters.
